Emergo and HexEmergo

Emergo and HexEmergo were developed from Lasca by Christian Freeling and Ed van Zon. They use Lasca's method of capture, but are played starting with an empty board, and the first phase of the game involves placing pieces in turn.

HexEmergo is featured in R. Wayne Schmittberger's New Rules for Classic Games (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New York - ISBN 0-471-53621-0) and has appeared in Games Magazine (February 1986).

The authors' MindSports Web site includes rules and strategy for each games, problems, and downloadable Java applets which will allow you to play the games with beautiful graphics (see examples below).
